walking and inspiration

I always go walking when i am at home and visiting my parents, apart from being theraputic and a great way of seeing countryside and getting out, there is also lots of inspiration for my work. The Thatched house here has given me some interesting design ideas in terms of materials and garment structure aswell as being a very skillfully done and beautiful structure itself.

The little shack sold all sorts of bits and bobs and i couldnt resist having a rummage, it was so unexpected just off the beach in someones backyard where a little old lady and her husband were running a tearoom in their front room, it was so quaint and unusual. I ended up buying Knitting patterns, dress patters, knitting needles and some old harpers magazine cuttings and obviously an icecream ....... its amazing what you can find in the most unexpected of places.

Sex and the City Fashion

Leeds Fashion show

Leeds Graduate Fashion Show was held at Victoria Works warehouse this year and was a display of beautiful, interesting, creative and innovative work. The menswear in this show was what inspired me to take the menswear pathway in fashion. Previously i had been unable to make a decision but this was a great clarification for me as well as a brilliant day and a chance to see what i will hopefully be able to achieve in the near future.

Tessalation

These Tessalations were for a project for my Design Theory module. I found this task fairly tricky as it was all done using photoshop and each piece was assembled seperately. I chose a colour palet from a set of chosen images in order to create a pattern for my end use which was curtains. I then split both a triangle and a square into shapes and reassembled and repeated them to create different tessalated patterns.

A love For Marylin

I love this photo of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. Both incredible fashion icons. I recently Read James Deans Biography. Incredibly interesting, what a life, however short lived. Racy, exciting and not a minuite wasted. Something i completely relate to. Marilyn Monroe, beautiful, sexy, talented and knew her body and how to dress better than anyone else in the business.

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Audrey hepburn must be one of the most iconic women in fashion history, her performance in Breakfast at Tiffany's resembled a woman of true elegance and beauty, headstrong and inspirational. The timeless cut and simplicity of her clothing in the film are something that i admire, it is one of those rare thigs when clothing so simple can have such an impact, create such a lasting impression and have influence over such a huge amount of people.
Her style has a vast following, fashions come in and out at such a fast pace that it almost becomes irrelevant and meaningless, as much as new technologies in fabric and garment production mean new and innovative styles and fashions can be created it is often this lasting and classic look that people search after.
